Miley Cyrus Releases Flowers

Who’s ready for an Endless Summer Vacation?

Miley Cyrus Flowers

After a two-year hiatus Miley Cyrus is back with a banging break up anthem.

Flowers is an ode to self-love, empowerment, and self-preservation. It is Yves Saint Laurent clad battle move against broken hearts, it’s the sound of a new era for Miley Cyrus.

The song has a lot of direct references to her marriage with, now ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth as well as some easter eggs hidden in the accompanying music video. The lyrics “Built a home and watched it burn” are a double entendre representing the Woolsey Fire of 2018 that destroyed the pairs home in Malibu as well as the incidents between the couple that razed their relationship. The song itself was released on the 13th of January-Hemsworth’s birthday further emphasising who this song may be about.

The theme of independence and empowerment run throughout the video with Miley dancing with herself, working out and ‘talking to herself for hours’. This is buttressed by the apparent back drop for this video, set in Los Angeles the mansion we see Cyrus strut in and swim in is supposedly her own Studio city home although some fan theories think it is the house where Hemsworth is alleged to have had affairs in.

However, Miley addressed cheating claims in 2019 saying “I can admit to a lot of things, but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before and it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”

It has also been suggested that the suit Miley wears in the mansion is meant to replicate the suit Hemsworth wore the night when he told Cyrus to behave whilst she was dancing on a red carpet. Fan have even analysed the YSL gown Cyrus wears at the start of the music video, wondering if its shade to the golden dress Jennifer Lawrence wore at the hunger games premier in 2012 although we think this is a bit of a stretch.

The most repeated reference to Hemsworth is the actual tune of the song. Sampled from Bruno Mars Flowers mirrors ‘When I was your man’ which Hemsworth apparently dedicated to Cyrus during their engagement. Although these rumours are yet to be confirmed it is a power move from Miley to take these words back and use them as her own sword.

Although this is clearly a breakup banger it is also a romantic ballad to the self. Remember you can love yourself better than anyone can, you can stick your favourite songs on and dance on your own, get dressed up and have nowhere to go. it is the relationship we share with ourselves which is the most important to our own preservation. cherish each other loudly but cherish yourself louder.

Flowers is part of Miley’s new album Endless summer vacation is set to release March 10. It will be the eighth studio album. Cyrus has described it as her “Love letter to L.A”.

“The music and imagery of ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ [serves] as a reflection of the strength she’s found in focusing on both her physical and mental well-being,” reads the official news release.

After hosting a NYE concert/party with Godmother Dolly Parton, dropping Flowers, and an upcoming album it is clear 2023 is Miley’s year.

Now wipe your eyes and go buy some flowers in your best gold suit.

Darcy Louch releases [Re] Defining.

Time to listen to yourself.

Darcy Louch

Two weeks into the new year, how is it being your best self? The better version of you, sculpted, teetotal, slimmer greener? Has it worked? Have you met those milestones? No? Wondering why? Beating yourself up about it, buried under a blanket and blaming the weather? Reality is ringing, you can not redefine yourself just because you said you would. Creating a person takes 9 months why would you believe that in a week you can become someone recognisable? Why would you want that? Who told you to be this way?

Of course you can create a different version of yourself and analyse the differences on a week to week bias but you must forgive yourself the days that you choose to tick the TV on instead of going for a 10k run, or the night you scoff chocolate over kale. You work harder than you think, forgive yourself.

In her latest EP , [RE] DEFINING Darcy Louch reminds us to reflect on all we have been through and what we have become. We’ve been waiting on the precipice of our potential withheld from ourselves due to the voices within.

The most critical voice is usually one only you can hear. The schoolyard bully, the egotistical boss and the loveless parent, all give volume to this voice, recognise their names and call them by it. the voice that tells us how lazy we are being , how stupid we are how ugly we look, we are bullied by ourselves to conform to some other ideal to silence the voice. This voice is not yours so why listen to it?

This abusive relationship we have with ourselves stops us from feeling love. Be kinder to yourself, be your own parent, your own boss. Had a difficult day at work but determined to workout for 2 hours straight? No that’s unrealistic, go on a short jog, do something light which still allows you to feel a sense of achievement, if getting through that shift wasn’t enough. Not feeling yourself. That’s okay, encourage yourself to do something for you. You are not lazy for watching a few episodes of your favourite show, or even a full series in one sitting, you are taking time for you. Just had dinner but still hungry? Clearly dinner wasn’t enough, have something else, you are not greedy or unhealthy for listening to the needs of your body.

Louch’s voice will drown out the bellow in your mind. Battling against her own bullies, her powerful ballads and poignant poetry touch provides an audible army for us against the aggression of the world within ourselves.

Her song Proud is about taking ownership over your own achievements, celebrating yourself and how you’ve grown. She reminds us appreciate what we have done for ourselves and acknowledge how we continue to defy our inner demons. It is about prioritising yourself and not feeling guilty for doing so.

Louch empowers us as well as herself with her songs. Her EP reminds us we are on a a shared journey, we do not have to face ourselves alone.

Same Stars has slight edge to it, there is defiance to these words. The pace of the song is gradually build up that brings the bold back into our bones. We have the right to choose. It’s the same sky you’re staring at but the view looks different because shared with someone who’s searching for your stars.

[RE] DEFINING reflects on Louch’s strengths, she’s had her setbacks but each time she comes back strengthened. There is resilience in redefining yourself, letting go of what does not serve you.

Her distinctive style follows on in the same might previously heard in her songs Lover’s Game and Worst Enemy although there is now a sense of surety to who she is. This soul is audible and makes for a liberating experience.

The next time you battle with your bully stick Louch on and defeat the demon.

Hull based duo The Arkut Brother’s release Restless.

Restless for a remedy that brings some recognition.

Yorkshire a county known for the pud, the terrier and the dales.

But did you know it is also host to a rich music genre from The Artic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs and now The Arkut Brothers.

The Hull based duo make music inspired by their surroundings, personal pride and heartache. The brutal awakening of a walk on the dales is whipped into the wit of these musicians. Their song ‘Take your time” is an ode to mental health, giving yourself priority over the whip of the world, let yourself take that walk, read that book or sleep it off. In our world of instant gratification and 7 step successes it is so easy to be fooled by immediacy. Remember things take time and we all run at different paces.

The Arkut Brothers live at Kardomah 94

Ironically their latest track ,Restless, discusses the need for productivity, pride in the face of a final. Of course achievements take time, perfection really does tae practice, but when they seem to take too much time the sense of delay can cripple you. Comparison to peers who may be tax brackets ahead, flights to trace every weekend as a work trip while you’re stuck in your local pub trying to make ends meet. It is bittersweet this roll of dice, we all play the game but each hand weighs differently. You have tried your best, a good balance of conformity and deviance, why isn’t it working?

It seems all forces are against you, lovers turn to heartbreakers, parents shut you out, friends don’t have time for you and confiding in your boss is ruled out. Are you the problem? Or is it the stars? Who knows what the answers are. The desperation and the dramatics that are born from lack of recognition is a dangerous route, my only advice in this scenario is to be patient and to persevere. Take measures to recognise your own worth and believe that one day someone else will see that too. Let yourself be enough for you.
