Meet After Atlantis, a Metal band from all over the World.

After Atlantis

We’ve all heard of the lost City of Atlantis, once a utopian civilisation brimming with intellectual beings formed in the appearance of God, although idolised had no armour against corruption and greed that which infected the population leading to the collapse and eventual sinking of it’s beauty.

After Atlantis took inspiration from this tale, using their talent to question how civilians would have adapted after losing their home to the depths of the Atlantic. Their song Last Goodbye explores this loss, the anger and frustration of having no belonging.

The band members shared with me what was most rewarding about being in a band. Nick, who plays bass, said” When everything comes together into one cohesive song”, after the hours of studio recordings, editing and collaborating over songwriting sessions to see the final product, to witness people listening to your work is obviously one of the most rewarding aspects of being in a band especially if all members have a “unique style” which accroding to lead guitarist Matt they do.

This is probably because of their eclectic musical influences; Matt for example has been influenced by, flamenco music and the chaotic style of Synester gates which explains why a lot of their music uses flat 5th and other songs echo that of Joey Jordison because of Adam’s, the drummer, musical background.

Despite only forming in October 2020 the band have already released two singles, Last Goodbye and All that we say so it is intriuging to see where else this band will go in the near future. Due to social media many aspring muscian this access to the msuic industry is simple if they can sing, scream or strum some chords yet it’s so much more challening than this which can be offputting that is why I asked the band members to share their advice vocalist Jack said  “Don’t be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone it’s the only way you can grow as a musician. And learn to take criticism cause not everyone will like what you do” …

…and that is perfectley fine because others will as long as you “Enjoy the grind, embrace it and become obsessed with it. Work hard, party harder. “according to Matt which is seconded by Nick who says Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, and keep on trying, even if it doesn’t go the way you want it to”

As long as you “just have fun with it, you’ll find out you can do more & write better stuff when you don’t take it too seriously” shared Adam. Music is for the people, including and almost especially, for those writing and producing it.

Interestingly all members are from different countries proving that when music matters distance doesn’t and we can untie through sound wherever we are.

Meet Carry The Crown A Rock band taking Lincolnshire by storm

For those of you on the go, and those of you that have been missing it, my podcast has returned listen to it here

Carry the Crown

Guitarist Rupert Tyrer and drummer James Butcher shared stories with me about unlimited beer, hidden talents and the difficulty of starting a band when two members don’t speak for 6 months- they’re the best of friends now though.

It’s this aggressive passion that fuels the band’s success and incites an audience to head bang, throw themselves at each other and on the floor. It’s this energy that felt impossible to attain for so long that now it’s finally back we are all quite stunned, allowng the music to melt over us so we too can feel it’s liquid form and wash away the year and a half on not being able to.

In my opinion their song ‘Faster’ is one of my favourites but it seems the release of ‘Karma’ was a defining moment for the band and you can hear why on my podcast.

Recently playing at The Scene in Lincoln, alongside The Velvet Queens, James explained to me that he felt ‘mesmerised’. After a gig that electric it’s ‘difficult to talk’. As a member of the moshers I too was stunned at how surreal it was too once again feel the pull of the crowd.

Which you can all feel too at their upcoming live shows, the first being on August the 26th with Shanghai Blue’s at The Victoria in London, tickets available here, and then another on Saturday the 18th September with SkinDred , more information here, and if that wasn’t enough for you there’s another Friday 24th September at the Lincoln Imp in Scunthorpe ,tickets available here. More things are in the works but you’ll have to head to my podcast to hear about that.

Carry The Crown is really a band for it’s crowds, consistently involving them at live shows, talking to them afterward and making music we can all resonate with. Shared anger, shared passion their performances are a guaranteed collective, cathartic experience.

Shortly after forming as a band in the midst of the initial 2020 Lockdown, The Velvet Queens then released their debut single, Losing my mind, in January 2021 which they will be able to showcase in their upcoming live gigs, the first of which is happening on the 31st of July at the Scene in Lincoln. Supported by Carry the Crown and LaVire it promises to be a groundbreaking night, you can read more about it here. Then on October 29th, ‘the Night before Hell, they welcome in spooky season with a live performance at the Lincoln Imp in Scunthorpe.

Their debut single Losing My Mind is an emotional piece which discusses depression and the band want to use it as a’ vehicle to discuss mental health and how people are feeling’ aiming to  encourage  us all to be more open as it’s time to find strength in our  vulnerability and accept that sometimes it’s okay to not be okay.

I had the privilege of speaking with Jordan Merrett, the guitarist and lead singer who shared stories of potential songs that went wrong, photos of phallic guitars in the woods and how the band make final decisions; it is all about being open and honest. Describing the band as “ridiculous” its exciting to see what is in store for the trio who seem to be bringing a new take to rock and roll, and I for one am here for it and you can hear about it on today’s episode of the podcast.

With their music already been played on Radio Roadhouse with Dave of darkness and upcoming gigs the challenges of lockdown haven’t hindered the success of this band.
