Otala instantly bang on your ear drums with this new track Tell The Bees. First listen and you’re immediately submerged within the sound of this song, no build up, no warning, and you’re hit with an audible ambush.An eruption of emotion and colourful experiences, an exploration of grief and coming to terms with the inevitable.

Telling the bees is a Celtic custom about informing the yellow helpers of a birth, of a death, when someone comes, when they go. This is done so that the bees stay, tell them your secrets or they’ll fly away. This tale is liquefied to music in Otala’s latest punk anthem, with it’s omniscient narrator seemingly aware of his impending fate.

The track is filled with rage, honouring the inescapable demise of our desperate storyteller. The devoid life we live after loss is explored in poem. There is lightning in these lyrics that crash through the thunderous storm of shredding guitar riffs and drum stabs, the atmosphere reaches a dramatic crescendo in the final words of the narrator. When uttered are met with a raucous bossa nova style sax, an explosion of sound- chaos ensues as the narrator rests. Is this ending an act of rebellion or a celebration at his passing?

In actuality it does not matter if we tell the bees, the inevitable will continue to occur, not as some synthetic concept looming in the future, it lurks on every clock turn and there is nothing we can do to prevent it. The inevitable can strike a smiling face as well as one soaked in tears. Thus it is best to rebel, to dance to live as well as you can whilst the inevitable watches.Look into its eyes and dance anyway.

Otala have already established themselves as punk pioneers after supporting the likes of, Enola Gay, Ritual Hills and Bloodworm, they have also played with the likes of Yabba who you can read about here.The quartet is made up of Oscar, providing the eery voice for the narrator and the surreal guitar riffs, Rory providing the boom on bass, Jack disorienting a listener with this melancholic tale on synths and Fin keeping everything in check on drums.

The rhythm of a 9-5 starts at 7am as an alarm wrestles you from sleep.Teeth brushed, coffee drank you are on your commute. You sweat, you serve, you balance the numbers, get home, devour dinner, swallow TV, catch up on reading to fall asleep. It continues.

How do you get by? Sex? Drugs? Rock and Roll? Is this your real life. This inescapable cycle of repeated events.You worked hard, you were promised more than this, but this is all there is for people like us.

GET BY Yabba

YABBA’s guitar shredding arrival tears this mentality asunder. A raging bass and a near by siren echoing, this song screams at you to question status you, to hold these restrictive systems accountable. Maybe don’t quit your job just yet, but you can certainly change it. This song demands you to challenge predictability, resonating with those of us haunted by the dissatisfaction of this relenting reality. YABBA both exposes and heralds the addictive vices approximately 3.2 million of brits find themselves using to “GET BY”. Another violent cycle, we are all victim to some sort of rhythm in our lives, nut at least we can learn to dance to it.

From Dumfries, South West Scotland, the stirring quintet are prepared for a full scale assault on the normalcy of the indie landscape. A concoction of incomparable sleaze disco, self indulgent track about drug use and addiction, this song would not be a stranger to a rave playlist, it is both melancholic and danceable.

Speaking about their hard edged debut YABBA revealed that “Get By can be used as much like C4 is used to blast the doors off a bank. The song carries the same burden shared with the common people in the UK. GET BY is the theme song Stone Cold Steve Austin wished he had. GET BY is big music, once you hear it you’ll never be the same”

Despite no previous recordings this band have established themselves with a slew of support shows in March 2022, performing alongside the likes of Irish buzz saw band Enola Gay.After being signed by indie revered record label Nice Swan Records they finish the year with slots lined up at Left of the Dial Festival, Swn Fest, Float Along Festival and Mutations festival, to name a few.

With gigs that promises to be “stomping” you are not gonna want to miss out.

Meet Darcy Louch

A cardboard cut out shaped into a square, sat on the dining room table surrounded by chairs. A friend or a few come over, or it’s a family night either way it’s all eyes on the prize. We are both united but divided, as the dice rolls and the timer ticket’s anyones win.But it’s also a task a mystery solved together, a property shared. In Darcy’s song Love game the game is over for the female protagonist has already won.

Swiping right, swiping left, she is in control of who she lets into her life, she enjoys the contest but refuses to be a conquest. With the card’s on the table it’s anyones bet just as long as the Queen doesn’t demand off with his head.

The dramatic dynamics that Darcy explores in Love game may resonate with those of us who have been in relationships in which our partner is gambling with our emotions, how many bets will they place before tears fall from our face and we pack up our things and leave this place?. The power and immaturity that comes with mind games is wittily explored in this romantic tale of fiction in which no voice can be trusted.Her female powerhouse influences are definitely imbued throughout this song, with echoes of Amy Winehouse and Etta James this piece is a striking performance from Louch.

Louch put this compelling piece together using only Acrobat and Garage band, a completely different formula to the production of her other song worst enemy which was professionally produced in a studio.

Worst enemy

Worst enemy explores the battle of cognitive dissonance, this sinister shallow of self doubt rising through you spine and slowly swallowing your soul as you work your hardest to reach your goals. You know you’re capable but you are worried you’ll fail, you’ll fall just as you reach to get it all. What if the person you’ve worked hard to be isn’t the best person you could be? What do you do when yourself becomes too much for you to handle? All of your energy goes into defeating this ficitious villainous version of a version yourself you have created.

Darcy Louch

Louch uses this song to expose her self inflicted wounds, despite the support of her friends and family she is her worst enemy. Her jazz infused vocals and upbeat backing track could fool you into thinking this was a positive song, which is usually the front we give to people when we are struggling but the lyrics are self explanatory that sometimes being who you are is a constant battle, we may be enough for others but just not for ourselves an dit is about finding faith in our ability and allowing ourselves to be proud of them.
